Important: Your own history

It's extremely important to create, take care of and develop your history. It doesn't matter who are you now and whom you are working for - PR/AD agency, transnational company, own business or serving your one and only client. Fix everything. Especially numbers. Especially if they can tell everybody the story of your growth.
Let's have a look at two specialists. For instance manager A is huge educated person, famous among colleagues for his genius solutions and excellent writing/presenting/communication skills. He is always positive and all his tasks are prepared in time. Of course, he is popular. For the job. Inside the agency he work for. Because of all mentioned advantages he always is busy. So busy that he has no one single minute to fix the results of all his projects. He is always in process and never gets results.
Manager B is not so educated. Not so positive. Not so creative. Not so popular. But he fixes everything. He always takes approving document for every step he makes. Number of years spent in this agency. Number of sold (or just created) projects. Number of projects he was involved in. Nobody likes him - inside the area he is living now.
But time is very strange thing.

One day both our managers find themselves outside of the agency. For different reasons. Outside all the clients know only the agency. What can manager A tell to his potential employer? What he can show? "everybody knows me, everybody likes me"? "I remember last 10-12 projects, but you know, I've been there for 10 years, so ... emm...". And in spite of all his genius skills he looks like undergraduate. Without any results.
What will show manager B? Documents, presentations, facts, numbers. Plus good suite - and he gets the job. And that will be one more result he will fix.
Do you really think it works only with managers? Agencies, companies, even whole countries are always in competition for different things. And facts approving the experience in different fields is always better than billion words about it. You'll never know what challenge will meet you over next turn. Or next year. Or next 10 years. But if you have a history, you can create your story.
Another useful thing  you can get from your own history. It's the great base of victories and mistakes that may teach your colleagues, your boss and yourself. It's impossible to make any analysis without accumulation of experience. And it's too hard to track new trend without compare of what exists, what was before, and what shows our own experience. So if you have a history, you can see your future.
The third and most important thing that our history gives us are ourselves. Why are we here? Why and how did we reach this point of planet (or market, or budget, or whatever)? And from this point we may plan anything, correct our strategy, change, or stay, or close, or develop. If you have a history, you have yourself.
I'm sure, everybody knows these three facts. At least, some people have the same feeling from time to time. So let's fix our history and create our story. Because that's good and exciting way to ourselves.
